A burmese boy from the village of Nyaung-U wearing Thanaka paste on his face. Thanaka, has been used by Burmese people for over 2000 years and, to a lesser extent also by men and boys. Thanaka powder applied on the skin, give a cooling sensation and provides protection from sunburn. It is made by grinding the wood and bark of the Murraya tree with a small amount of water.
